A lot of research goes into manufacturing pressurized containers such as MC-331 tankers to safely transport dangerous contents like LP-gas or anhydrous ammonia. A MC-331 tanker is designed to transport a variety of liquified gases including:
- Liquified Petroleum Gas(LPG)
- Dimethyl Ether

Size and Shape:
MC-331 tankers usually have a tubular shape with round cross sections at the ends. However, some may have square backs in order to protect gauges, shut-offs, etc. Industrial LPG transport tankers hold up to 11,500 gallons and are used for larger applications.
Composition and Safety:
Each MC-331 compressed tanker is specifically made to meet the physical-chemical specifications of the product they carry. They are usually made up of steel, have single compartment and are equipped with safety features to avoid or minimize impact in case of accidents. These tankers are equipped with pressure relief devices or safety relief valves to keep the tank from over-pressurizing. They also have reinforced recessed skid and protected gauge wells to protect gauges for temperature, pressure, liquid level, etc.in case of rollover.
Propane Tanker Compliance:
Every one of these tanks has to be certified by ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) to make sure they’re pressurized properly. The maximum allowable working pressure for MC-331 tankers is usually between 250 and 265 psig. These trailers should comply with DOT cargo tank specifications for LP-Gas service and should also comply with Section 2- 2 and be equipped with appurtenances as provided in Section 2-3 for cargo service.
